Tutoring experience

Head of Maths for many years, a successful private tutor for over 27 years and a secondary maths teacher for 28 years. I have recently taken early retirement from my position as head of the maths department, so I am very familiar with a wide range of maths schemes and exam boards. I have 5 years experience as an online maths tutor for KS3, GCSE and IGCSE. I offer a free trial lesson for all my online students.

About yourself

I prefer to teach using a logical and systematic approach rather than jump from one topic to another. I always leave work for the pupil to complete which would be checked at the beginning of the next session. For GCSE pupils I always complete a topic or section by working on past exam questions.
My online tuition has been very successful and all of my students have improved their grades by 2 or more levels, depending on the length of the tuition. Some of my students have improved from a 'D' grade to an 'A' grade.

As well as regular weekly tuition, I also offer short revision courses (2 or 3 weeks) and one-off revision sessions to prepare for exams. I can tailor the online lessons to suit the needs of the student. I am married with 2 children and I love helping students reach their potential and be proud of what they have achieved.

EvoTuition Authenticated Feedback:

"Brilliant teacher - due to this, in the past 6 months my grades and understanding in maths have seen a drastic increase - would highly recommend to anybody!" (GCSE maths student, 2017).

"I would highly recommend Ken as a maths tutor to anyone and would encourage it as a wise investment. He has restored my daughters confidence in her own abilities in order to provide her with the best possible chance of succeeding at her higher maths GCSE. Ken's superb teaching skills have enabled my daughter to understand topics which she had been unable to grasp at school and his years of experience as the head of maths department is evident through his extensive knowledge of the maths syllabus, exam system and excellent communication skills." (Parent of GCSE maths student, 2017)

"My daughter was lacking in confidence in maths in the run up to starting her GCSE programme. Ken has been really helpful in building up her confidence and he goes through each topic in line with her syllabus so she feels more prepared for class. His approach is methodic to each topic and is very structured. Ken is a great teacher."

"I had my first trial session and it was amazing. I am really impressed with the way he was communicating."

"Ken has been a great tutor. A very refreshing character who is an effective motivator.”
