Tutoring experience

I have over 35 years experience of very successful teaching and tutoring of economics and business studies. I have taught in a wide range of independent and state schools both in the UK and abroad as well as tutoring first year undergraduates in university. I have worked as an examiner for both A-level and GCSE and have also set examination questions for two exam boards. I am currently employed as an examiner by OCR, a moderator by Edexcel and a tutor of AQA. I also work as an online tutor for economics and business studies. I can really help in both the analysis and evaluation of theory as well as greatly improve examination technique. I am familiar with all the current examination boards and have access to materials supplied by them to schools and colleges, which is often unavailable to other tutors.

About yourself

I am a very patient tutor, with a good sense of humour, who has the ability to explain, often complex theory, in a clear and understandable way. I use case studies and real life examples wherever I can to help illustrate concepts and the analytical demands of a topic. I also try wherever possible to combine my teaching with the use of examination material so that my tutees are able to see how the topic could be used in case study, essay, multiple choice or short answer questions.

Having considerable teaching experience has clearly benefited my tutees and helped to enhance their grades to meet their own personal targets. I encourage my tutees to prepare work which I can assess with them so that they can begin to understand where they are gaining marks and how areas can be improved. This is a valuable insight into the assessment procedure not usually provided in schools or colleges. Having also over 20 years of examiner experience I have a great deal of knowledge about the demands of the examinations both at GCSE and A-level.
