With a decade's experience of award-winning teaching and research at leading universities in the UK and the US, I specialise in helping university students in the humanities and social sciences with all aspects of their learning. I also offer tuition to A-level students and adult learners. My approach is student-centred: I look to meet clients at the level they are at and I tailor my online tuition to their specific needs. As a fellow of the Higher Education Academy, I have substantial pedagogical training to add to my subject-specific expertise. This means I not only have mastery of the subject matter, but I also know how to teach it in ways that are effective in terms of student learning. I welcome students from all backgrounds, accord all students the same care and respect, and do my best for all my clients.

I am an experienced graduate tutor with more than 3 years experience teaching English, Maths, Spanish, Arabic and History both online and offline. I also support children with special educational needs such as dyslexia. I first started assisting in the teaching of English in a year 1 class at a primary school in 2012 and have been teaching English to adults since 2014. In 2016 I gained a professional TEFL qualification and trained as an online tutor while studying for my masters degree. This experience, combined with experience of working with young children (age 4+) as a summer camp leader, provides me with an ideal positioning to work with children and adults with a variety of educational backgrounds and needs, to increase their confidence in English, maths, history and languages.

I have been tutoring for 9 years, both online and in person. I have taught students from all types of schools including Eton, Harrow, Cheltenham Ladies college, Grammar schools and Comprehensive schools. I obtained my degree in 1997 but have been in Education since 1990 and love working with children and see the progress and understanding they achieve under my tutelage. I was also a lecturer for one year at Roehampton university, assessing trainee teachers, so I have an excellent understanding of the ingredients needed to make a lesson and how to teach to a students preferred learning style. In school I was a head of department, head of house and a professional tutor for teachers meaning I assessed their performance each year and determined their professional needs and abilities. I am also an examiner for all of the subjects I teach.

I have been tutoring since 2012 and have had a great set of results from all of my students. All students I have tutored for SAT`s have improved well and in GCSE and A-levels I have never had a student achieve less than a grade B. Also in some instances I have helped students raise their grades from U or E to A and A*. Students in secondary school studying for GCSE and A-levels can sometimes be missing the key thing that could help them hit top grades.

Tuition offered: English (Degree, A-level, GCSE, Secondary & Primary), French (Degree, A-level, GCSE, Secondary, Primary & Casual), History (Degree, A-level, GCSE & Secondary), Business Studies (Degree & A-level), Politics (Degree & A-level)
I have been a private tutor for 25 years., running my own business and serving my local area. I successfully transferred my skills online 10 years ago. I specialise in support for classroom studies and exam techniques, providing an alternate, more relaxed environment to the school whereby students can feel comfortable and ask the questions they need to in order to progress with their studies. The classroom environment often does not provide for students to adequately learn new skills, practice them and then use them successfully in exams. I give students the opportunity to ask “how” a mistake is rectified and allow them to ask as many times as they need to in order to understand the process. This is especially true in the case of technical accuracy which is high making component of all GCSE English exams. I am also experienced in dealing with students with Dyslexia, Asperger’s Dyspraxia and autism, finding methods for the individual to reach their potential with individual strategies. Many students who have been diagnosed, and those undiagnosed, are left wit h the feeling of they cannot achieve like their peers, that they are not smart enough. I aim to show them that this is not the case and adjustments to the way they approach tasks can help them to advance their studies successfully. I have been a French speaker from a young age , having lived with my French grandmother. I have always chosen French as part of my studies and successfully tutor conversation and business French, as well as ks3 through to undergraduate . I also give advice and practical help to degree level students with the organisation and writing of their assignments and dissertations in a variety of disciplines.

Tuition offered: History (Undergraduate, A-level, GCSE & KS3)
I have been a qualified history teacher for over 13 years. In addition, I am a GCSE examiner for AQA and provide online history tuition and exam coaching for KS3, GCSE and A-level students. I also offer online tuition to undergraduates looking to target problem areas and improve their knowledge and understanding of the key skills and processes required. As a teacher with over 13 years' experience, I firmly believe in building strong relationships with my pupils through individualised learning programmes. As such, I insist upon an initial free consultation in which we’ll discuss academic progress, personal aspirations and individual needs. In doing so, we can build a bespoke programme before realising mutually agreed objectives and maximising success.

I have 5 years of experience as a private tutor. My style of teaching is about helping students to grow and solve the challenges they face. This may be when approaching an essay question, essay structure and planning, or just understanding the subject material. I support my students in going through these parts of their studies and break things down in a simple manner. I help build confidence and problem solving ability. Academics doesn't have to be boring or soul destroying, and I want to show that it can be enjoyable.

My tutoring experience is in reality limited at this moment in time. I have informally helped friends and family and have volunteered at a homework club supporting young people. However, I have an excellent understanding of my subjects and am also able to apply this to what is required within examinations. All my lessons will be well prepared and the requirements of the exam board will be well researched. I am passionate about my chosen subjects and my limited feedback is that I am able to explain the topics and set out improvement plans in an engaging way. I have also spent numerous years coaching athletics both within a club setting and in various summer schemes. This has strengthened my ability to communicate effectively with a wide range of people through different ages and abilities. My approach to tutoring is based wholly on what a lot of students miss out on in schools (especially when taught in big classes). Students are often forced to focus on learning large amounts of information, but for most this is not enough to create a real understanding of the subject and the ability to achieve the best grades. My approach is encourage students to think about the information independently, to form their own connections and ask the questions which will enhance their own learning. I find that once there is an engagement with the subject beyond the core bulk of information, that is when learning really takes place. This technique of stimulating the students mind is then coupled with using knowledge and interpretation to think about answering exam questions. Every session at its core will focus on a single exam question, as exploring this one question gives the student a depth of knowledge that can then be applied to multiple questions.

Tuition offered: History (A-level, GCSE & Secondary)
I am a fully qualified history teacher and have experience of tutoring and teaching at GCSE and A-level. I taught history in a large, successful comprehensive school and have experience of working with students of varying abilities to achieve and exceed their target grades; indeed several achieved full marks in their exams. I have covered many periods of history in my teaching, both modern and pre-20th century; the Tudor and Stuart periods are my specialist areas. I have also recently worked as a GCSE history examiner for a major exam board which has given me a good understanding of effective exam techniques.
