I have been teaching for 25 years and for just under 20 years I taught in secondary schools. For nearly 5 years I have been a full-time private tutor and have many students and families who have been with me for several years now. I have a number of students who have been home tutored and have taken their sciences and maths solely with me. Their results have been excellent. I enjoy working with all of my students very much and am extremely proud of their achievements.

I have taught all aspects of 11-18 science very successfully in secondary schools for 34 years, working as head of biology and head of science. I have enjoyed helping dozens of students as a one-to-one tutor in A-level biology and IGCSE and GCSE sciences since 1987. In all that time, I have learned a lot about good teaching and good learning. I will tailor individualised support for you, whether you need a full rescue package, want a bit more confidence in exams or intend to sharpen your performance for your medical school applications.

Tuition offered: Chemistry (A-level)
I have been teaching and tutoring chemistry for 12 years. I specialise in A-level and work as an examiner and adviser to schools. I have also been teaching online for 6 years using EvoTuition and have new digital teaching resources for the 2019 exams. I previously taught at Durham University and received the Durham University Teaching and Learning Award. Over the years I have tutored hundreds of A-level chemistry students. My lessons are based around developing exam technique as well as improving understanding. I recently produced a full set of new teaching resources and practise questions for the new specifications, which I share with all my students (the new specifications started in September 2015). I offer all students a free trial lesson so they can experience my teaching style before deciding if they wish to continue with tuition. To arrange a free trial lesson, just send me a message.

I have 38 years teaching experience mainly teaching science to GCSE and physics to A-level. Having taken early retirement as head of science, I have spent the time since doing supply work in a variety of schools both secondary and primary. This has given me a wide experience of different students and their needs. I also extensively worked for an exam board helping to construct exam papers and write syllabi for several major schemes. As a result I have extensive knowledge of assessment techniques used in examinations especially at GCSE. I have also tutored mathematics one to one up to KS3 in several schools under the government scheme offered to schools and have done both online and in-home tutoring.

I have been successfully tutoring science online for 10 years and and I have been teaching at Secondary School for `10 years.I can proudly say that most of my tutees have achieved grade 8 and 9 in their exams. Most of my tutees have come through recommendations from other parents who have used my service before. I use a range of interactive resources and exam questions to get them familiarised with the exam techniques. I do regular assessments with different style questions especially extended 6 markers and application questions. I am also an examiner for Pearson and this has given me the chance to understand the exam techniques that students should use for their exams. The tricks of using keywords and sequence in answers, equations and its rearrangements in physics are all key to get more marks in the exams.

I have 25 years of experience teaching chemistry and science at an outstanding school, where I was head of chemistry for 10 years. I am now a full-time online tutor, teaching chemistry at A-level, which I specialise in, and chemistry, physics and biology at GCSE. I can also offer assistance in the chemical and physical aspects of A level biology. I find one of my most effective strategies is to answer banks of exam questions with the student, and reflect on the mark schemes . A recent student wrote: "Hi Simon, I got a 9 and an average of 91% in Chemistry. Thank you so much for all of your help." Another parent wrote: "Just to let you know that Georgina got a 9 in all three sciences at GCSE. Thank you for your help with her lessons." As a full-time tutor, I am available for daytime slots as well as evenings.

I have 13 years of teaching experience as both a class teacher and a head of science. During this time I have taught across all of the science disciplines at both Key Stage 3 and Key Stage 4. I have delivered a wide array of science qualifications at Key Stage 4 from the AQA, OCR and Edexcel examination boards to all levels of abilities. I am currently delivering AQA Trilogy at both Foundation and Higher tier level ensuring that I am familiar and up to date with the changing rigours of the exam boards. During the last 7 years I have been an exam marker for the OCR exam board giving me an enhanced understanding of the fine details of exam requirements and techniques. My continuing drive to further develop myself as a professional has allowed me to qualify to teach A-level chemistry as well as biology. After our initial contact we will discuss your individual needs in detail in order to develop a bespoke program which allows you to maximise your potential in the subject.
