I have been teaching for nearly 25 years and for just under 20 years I taught in secondary schools. For nearly 5 years I have been a full-time private tutor and have many students and families who have been with me for several years now. I have a number of students who have been home tutored and have taken their sciences and maths solely with me. Their results have been excellent. I enjoy working with all of my students very much and am extremely proud of their achievements.

Tuition offered: Geography (A-level, GCSE & Secondary)
I am a qualified geography teacher and work at a high achieving secondary school where I teach geography at Key Stage 3, GCSE and A-level. I am an A-level examiner, and can offer tuition for all mainstream exam boards. I have been a private tutor for 7 years, and have tutored geography online for 5 years. I therefore have a large quantity of resources suitable for online teaching which can be shared with students. All my previous students have made significant progress, often improving by 1-2 grades, and many have therefore chosen to continue to study geography at A-level or university.

I previously taught at Durham University and received the Durham University Teaching and Learning Award. Over the years I have tutored hundreds of A-level chemistry students. My lessons are based around developing exam technique as well as improving understanding. I recently produced a full set of new teaching resources and practise questions for the new specifications, which I share with all my students (the new specifications started in September 2015). I offer all students a free trial lesson so they can experience my teaching style before deciding if they wish to continue with tuition. To arrange a free trial lesson, just send me a message.

Tuition offered: English (A-level, IGCSE, GCSE & KS3, CE/13+), ESOL, Sociolinguistics (Degree & A-level), Stylistics (Degree & A-level)
I specialise in English Language and Literature GCSE and A-Level. I taught English and related areas at post-16 colleges and university for 20 years, and have tutored for many years, in the UK, Germany, USA and online. I am convinced that online tutoring is just as valuable and effective - recent successes include ESOL and English Language iGCSE in Dubai and Jerusalem, with students for whom English is a second language. Whatever your predicted grade I can help you improve; your lessons will be geared to your particular needs - and always focused on "what the examiner wants". Although online, my lessons are interactive: to learn you need to think and engage, not just watch & listen - and for success in English you need opinions and the evidence to support them. I don’t always agree with students’ interpretations, but no opinion is wrong if it can be justified - which makes tutorials interesting. Oh, and I always set homework. My PhD is directly relevant to the linguistic elements of the new English Language A-Levels. Many teachers lack knowledge in this area and admit to conceptual gaps - I can fill these in, as I did with a recent student who went from predicted E to B after 8 hours of tuition. (She ended up explaining parts of the syllabus to her teacher…) I keep up with the latest syllabuses, educational materials and developments, and belong to professional organisations - UKLA, NATE.

I have 10 years of Maths tutoring experience with AQA, OCR, Edexcel and CIE exam boards. I have taught at school and university level and I also have industry experience. My approach is to break down topics in a methodical manner, ensuring each is thoroughly mastered from basics to advanced, and adapt to the students' learning style. I am also an examiner (over 10 years experience), moderator and team leader and can thus improve students' exam techniques and presentation of answers and help maximise marks in exams. I have a wealth of resources available that are proven to maximise students' potential. All of my previous students have moved levels and received excellent results (with loads of 9s achieved). Maths is my passion and I enjoy maximising students' potential and make them more confident in Maths.
